Beyond the screen: breaking the fourth wall in cinema

I graduated in 2021 at IULM University in Milan with a thesis named "Beyond the screen: breaking the fourth wall in cinema", after attending the Creative Writing Laboratory with Professor and writer Antonio Scurati.

In a journey from the theater to the early cinema, moving on to the most recent films and tv series: some characters break the fourth wall in many different ways, and in just as many ways they create an unique relationship with the viewer to whom they want - or must - speak .

An important part of this project was the creation of an original short story where I applied what I studied and learned about the fourth wall: I created William, a young boy that, one day, discovers to be living in a world with a narrator who knows exactly who he is, what he's done and what he's going to do.

The movies "Stranger than Fiction" and "The Truman Show" were a great inspiration for this short story, that I wrote and completed by scripting some of its parts.
